Erminia "Minnie" LaScala

Erminia "Minnie"  LaScala, 89 of Newell, Pa. passed away Sunday, May 21, 2017 at Thorpe's Personal Care Home, Charleroi, Pa.

She was born August 12, 1927 in Newell, PA, daughter of Frank LaScala  and Antonia Vuono LaScala.  

Erminia was a graduate of Brownsville Area High School, Class of 1945 and Seton Hill University, Class of 1949.  She also pursued studies at California University of Pa and Middlebury College, Middlebury, VT.  Erminia taught Spanish and English at Brownsville Area High School for 38 years, retiring in 1988.  She was a lifelong resident of Newell and a lifelong member of Our Lady of 
Perpetual Help Catholic Church until its closing and then a member of St. Thomas Aquinas Catholic Church, California, Pa.

She is survived by the following nieces and nephews; Amy Roberts,  Lisa Novak,Linda Keplar, Michael Musar, Frank LaScala, Jon D. LaScala and Christopher Novak; great nieces; Kathryn Musar, Elizabeth Musar, Ellen Teter,  Ann Marie Keplar, Jordan Novak; great nephew Evan Novak; great-great nieces, Jaclyn and Alyssa Teter and Alivia Faith Bashur;; great-great nephews; Shawn and Jeremy Dawson.

She was preceded in death by her parents; sister Jean LaScala Musar; brother Franklin E. LaScala and a younger sister Erminia in 1923.

Friends will be received Wednesday, May 24, 2017 from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 pm in the Eley-McCrory Funeral Home, Inc., 334 Main St. Fayette City, PA. (724)-326-5621,www.eleymccroryfuneralhome.com.  Blessing Services will be held Thursday at 11:00 am in the funeral home with Msgr. Roger A Statnick as celebrant.  Inurnment will take place in the Monongahela Cemetery, Monongahela, PA.

Memorial Contributions may be made to the Sisters of Charity of Seton Hill, 144 DePaul Center Rd., Greensburg, Pa. 15601.
