John “Honk” Prokopovitch Jr., 90, of Washington Township, Pennsylvania, passed away peacefully in his sleep on June 15, 2017 at Mount St. Macrina Manor in Uniontown.

John was born in Monessen, Pennsylvania on January 2, 1927 and was married to Kathryn “Kuta” (Hussar).  John served in the United States Army during World War II and was a retired steelworker from Wheeling Pittsburgh Steel in Monessen.  John enjoyed hunting on his farm, fishing, bowling, playing cards and having coffee at the Pitt Stop with friends. John was a member of St. Mary’s Byzantine Catholic Church of Monessen and the Fayette City American Legion.

John was preceded in death by his loving wife Kathryn, his daughter and son in law Kathleen and Charles Lloyd; his parents John and Mary Prokopovitch and eleven brothers and sisters.

John is survived by four children, Richard (wife Laurel); John III; Frank (wife Vicki); and Diane Dongilli (husband Alan); eleven grandchildren, John and his wife raised two of their grandchildren, Kathy (Lloyd) Forte (husband Jeff); and Chuck Lloyd (fiancée Denise Hamer), after the sudden death of their daughter Kathleen in August 1976; grandchildren Cody (wife Shannon), Nicole Fartini (husband Nicholas), Amber (Dongilli) Gido (husband John), Chase Dongilli (wife Karlee), John IV, Michelle, Eric, RJ, and Danielle Etling; fifteen great grandchildren, Brandon, Caitlyn, and Autumn Forte; Christine and Celeste Lloyd; Sophia and Dominic Fartini; Weston Prokopovitch; Anthony and Bennett Gido; Kendall Dongilli; Kathryn Mattey and Trinity DuVall; Lexi and Allen Etling; and one sister Rose Chovan.

Visitation will be 5:00 – 8:00 Sunday evening, June 18 at Eley McCrory Funeral Home, 334 Main St, Fayette City, Pa. (724)-326-5621. www.eleymccroryfuneralhome.com.  The funeral service will be Monday, June 19 at 10:00 am at St. Mary’s Cemetery, Lenity School Road, Rostraver. Family and friends attending Monday’s service are to go directly to St. Mary’s cemetery.  Father Bump of St. Sebastian Church will officiate the funeral service. 

The family wishes to thank everyone who cared for John from Amedisys Hospice, Mount St. Macrina Manor, and Cherry Tree Nursing home for their care and compassion.
