George Bednar

George "Fudge" Bednar, 92 of Gillespie, Fayette City, PA, passed away Monday, Ocotber 28, 2013 in Country Care manor surrounded by his loving family.

He was born July 13, 1921 in Gillespie, Washington Twp., PA, son of the late Josef Bednar and the late Mary Matvej Bednar. George was a member of Holy Ghost Byzantine Catholic Church, Charleroi, Pa.. and retired from Wheeling-Pittsburgh Steel Co., Allenport Plant. He was a US Navy veteran of WWII.

George is survived by numerous nieces and nephews and their families.

He was preceded in death by one brother, Joseph Bednar; four sisters. Anna Poprocky, Kathryn Vesely, Helen Bolchak and Margaret Buckley.

Friends will be received Wednesday, October 30, 2013 from 3 to 8 pm in the Eley-McCrory Funeral Home,Inc., 334 Main St., Fayette City, PA.724-326-5621,www.eleymccroryfuneralhome.com Panachida services will be held Thursday, October 31, 2013 at 9:15 am in the funeral home followed by Divine Liturgy at 10:00 am in Holy Ghost Byzantine Catholic Church, Charleroi. Pa. with Rev. Fr. James Ragan as celebrant Entombment will follow in the Belle Vernon Cemetery. In Lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to Holy Ghost Byzantine Catholic Church, 828 Meadow Ave., Charleroi, Pa. 15022. Parastas Services will be held Wednesday at 3:00 pm in the funeral home.
