John "Jack" Gardner, 93 of Gillespie, Fayette City, PA, passed away Tuesday, February 11, 2014 at home surrounded by his loving family.
He was born February 2, 1921 in Gillespie., PA, son of the late James Gardner and the late Jean Smith Gardner. Jack was a proud US Army veteran of W II having served with the 104th Timberwolves Division in Northern France,Rhineland and Central Europe. He was a member of Brightwell-Daughtery Post 484, American Legion in Fayette City and the Fairhope Rod & Gun Club. He was retired from Wheeling-Pittsburgh Steel, Allenport Plant with 42 years of service.
He is survived by his wife of 68 years, Celina Elwell Gardner; son, Joseph Gardner and wife Cindy of Perryopolis, daughter, Jackie Gishnock and husband Ed of Fayette City, son, David Gardner and wife Terri of Belle Vernon and daughter, Jeannie Chaybin and husband Dave of Belle Vernon, 11 grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren. Also survived by numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by four brothers, James, Robert, Melrose and Willis Gardner; six sisters, Jessie Stewart, Margaret Krivda,Esther Coldren, Janet Motzer, Jean Breckenridge and Gladys Gallagher.
Friends will be received Thursday, February 13, and Friday, February 14 2014 from 2 to 4 & 6 to 8 pm in the Eley-McCrory Funeral Home,Inc., 334 Main St., Fayette City, PA. 724-326-5621,www.eleymccroryfuneralhome.com. Funeral Services will be held Saturday, February 15, 2014 at 10:00 am in the funeral home with Sister Bernadette Carlow officiating. Interment will follow in the Mt. Washington Cemetery, Perryopolis, PA. with military honors accorded by American Legion Post 484. American Legion Post 484 will conduct services Friday evening at 7 pm in the funeral home.
