John E Smetanka

John E. (Shorty) Smetanka, 69 of Jefferson Twp. Perryopolis, PA, passed away Thursday, July 18, 2013 in his residence with his loving family at his side.

He was born January 13, 1944 in Jefferson Twp., PA, son of the late Joseph F Smetanka and the late Jane Laska Smetanka. He was retired from Operating Engineers Local # 66. The family would like to offer heartfelt thanks for the loving care John was given by Amedisys Hospice.

Left to cherish his memory are his loving wife of 49 years Rosemary Miske Smetanka; two sons, John E Smetanka Jr. and wife Kim Williams Smetanka of Lemont Furance,Pa, and Matthew J Smetanka of Perryopolis,Pa.; two daughters, Cynthia Smetanka Alawan and Dr. Deeb Alawan of Strongville,OH and Marijo Smetanka Arison and husband Bobby J. Arison of Star Junction,Pa; sister Martha Hela of Perryopolis,Pa. He will also be sadly missed by his seven grandchildren Mitzi, Corey, Chelsea, Kaitlyn, Kamley, Deeb and Colton.

He was preceded in death by his brother Joseph Smetanka.

Friends will be received Monday, July 22, 2013 from 2-4 & 6-9 pm in the Eley-McCrory Funeral Home, Inc, 334 Main Street, Fayette City, PA. 724-326-5621,www.eleymccroryfuneralhome.com. Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, July 23, 2013 at 10:00 with Pastor Lee Maley officiating. Interment will follow in the Mt. Washington Cemetery, Perryopolis, Pa.
