Nina Mae (Dando) Sobek

Nina Mae Dando Sobek, 91, of Newell Rd., Jefferson Twp. PA, passed away peacefully at home on Tuesday, September 3, 2013.

She was born April 25, 1922 in Bunola, PA, daughter of the late Carl F Dando Sr. and the late Myrtle J Foster Dando. Nina was a life long member of the Newell United Methodist Church. She sang in the choir,taught Sunday school, attended Bible Study and was an active member of the Women Society. She was a member of the VFW Ladies Auxillary of Post 1606 in Newell. She earned a Diploma from Douglas business College. During World War II, she worked at J & L Steel, the General Chemical Co in Newell and was a tack-welder at Dravo. She was a swimming instructor at Crystal Pool and Monessen Jr. High. She later worked in the Revenue Department at California University of Pa. Nina was deeply loved by family and friends. She always had time to listen to,care for and pray for others. She will be greatly missed.

She is survived by her son, Stanley Sobek Jr. at home and Judy Sobek of Maryland, daughter, Suzanne Sobek Stapleton and husband William of Evans,Ga.;, grandson, Stephen Sobek, granddaughter, Michelle Sobek both at home, grandson, Michael Stapleton and wife Amber of Augusta,GA., granddaughter, Sarah Stapleton Sollie and husband Matt of Augusta, GA., great-grandson, Benjamin Stapleton, great-grandson, John Stapleton, great-granddaughter, Caitlin Sollie;.brother, Richard Dando and wife Cookie of Newell, brother, Dr. William A. Dando and wife Caroline of Terre Haute,IN., Sister Shirley Tonarelli of Dunlevy,Pa.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 57 years Stanley Sobek Sr., two brothers, Carl F. Dando Jr., and James Owen Dando.

Friends will be received Wednesday, September 04, 2013 from 7- 9 pm & Thursday from 2 - 4 & 7- 9 pm in the Eley-McCrory Funeral Home,Inc., 334 Main St., Fayette City, PA.724-326-5621,www.eleymccroryfuneralhome.com. Funeral Services will be held Friday, September 6, 2013 at 11:00 am with Pastor Rob Rabenstein officiating. Interment will follow in the LaFayette Memorial Park, Brier Hill, Pa.
